MUTCD Law Changes VI: Compliance Dates

Stonehouse Signs is summarizing the MUTCD standards changes, published in the 2009 Edition of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) by the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration (FHWA.) The date for implementation and continued use of an assessment or management method that is designed to maintain traffic sign retroreflectivity at or above the established minimum levels is January 22, 2012.

Our last post included a detailed description of the various sign size changes and lettering changes in the 2009 Edition of the MUTCD.  Now that we have informed you of some of the more relevant changes to signs throughout the new edition, all that's left is to keep you informed of the relevant compliance dates for each section.

Update:

U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood has stated that the FHWA is proposing to eliminate several of the required compliance dates for MUTCD Compliant Traffic Signs. For the most up-to-date information on compliance dates, please visit the FHWA Website
